In addition to providing the development tools needed to assist single mothers in becoming financially self sufficient and the ability to thrive, we provide supportive services to aid families with their everyday living needs.
With our organization's mission always in mind, we strive to support families with a holistic approach. Consequently, support groups for mothers and teens are available in effort to meet their social, emotional, and spiritual needs. Our online meeting is scheduled every 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 7pm for mothers and every 1st and 3rd Saturday at noon for teens. Meet-up dates and locations are discussed within the groups and announced on the website's monthly calendar. Women and Youth Empowerment Events are scheduled periodically.
THE FURNITURE BANK OF METRO ATLANTA REFERRAL
We see every challenge as an opportunity, consequently our partnership with The Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta helps to ensure that our mothers are better prepared to manage the unique situations they find themselves in daily to include the need for furniture. The Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta assists clients by providing free furniture and household goods. Individuals and families moving out of homelessness, low income, living with HIV/AIDS, or fleeing domestic violence are eligible for this program. If you are in need of furniture, please contact us to see if you qualify. Please note that you will not be able to get an appointment for furniture from the Furniture Bank unless you are accepted as a client for service(s) from Single Mothers Matter. Once mothers are accepted into our programs they are then eligible for a referral to the Furniture Bank if they possess one of the above mentioned statuses. Mothers can then choose between the following two appointment types:
Curbside Deliverance - ($100-$150 fee): Mothers pick out items and the items are delivered to the curb the same day. Mothers are responsible for the necessary labor to move the items into their apartment/house.
In-Home Delivery - ($200): Mothers pick out items and the items are delivered into their home the following day. Delivery does not include furniture set up.
The Furniture Bank delivers within 50 miles of their warehouse. Locations that are more than 25 miles away but are within the 50 miles have an additional $50 fee for the extended service. Please contact us if you desire to support mothers with delivery fees or furniture set up.
Single Mothers Matter understands that transportation is one of the many challenges for single mothers. As a result we provide rides to participants of our programs to the grocery store on Saturdays between the hours of 8 am and noon. Appointments must be made by Wednesday of the requested week.
DECORATE A ROOM
Our physical surroundings play an important role in creating a sense of meaning and organization in our lives. Many single mothers do not have the extra money to furnish or decorate their living spaces. It is with this premise that Single Mothers Matter offers a home decor makeover as an incentive for mothers that are participants in our programs. We conduct a monthly drawing to select and award a mother a home decor makeover in effort to foster an environment that is conducive for growth and creativity for families to become their best selves. Help us meet this need by donating home decor items or gift cards to purchase items.
YOUTH CULTURAL ARTS ACTIVITIES
Our organization understands the impact that cultural arts have on youth. In addition to providing a creative outlet, cultural arts provide mental, emotional, and educational benefits. Exposure to the arts provide tremendous academic benefits. Consequently we provide ballet dance classes for all age groups. Please complete the Interest form and signup today!
